Private Schools
Many mums start to worry about schools once baby turns 6 months (or even earlier).
London has a bad reputation when it comes to schools. There are lots of private schools, some great but some not so good. Oversubscribed, they often assess the children for entry at 4 year old and parents are known to employ tutors for their 2 year olds. There are always horror stories floating around about how you won't get a place at school if you didn't register at conception etc.
I have no idea how much of this is true.
If you live in/around Marylebone and are considering the private route, you will find that once again Marylebone has few options. Schools seem to be clustered around Swiss Cottage/Hampstead, South Kensington and beyond and Notting Hill. There are few within walking distance so be prepared for a drive!
Below I have tried to list all the schools that are within a reasonable distance of Marylebone, along with a rough location. Please note I have ONLY included girls and mixed schools as this is from my personal list (and I have a daughter, so wasn't looking at boys!).
Wetherby is obviously the most famous boys school and that one really is a case of having to sign up the moment the child is born (like its sister girls school Pembridge Hall), but note that we are also getting a new Marylebone School for Secondary boys opening soon.
This table is not complete and I will be adding over time once I find my other list!!
Do feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about this, or questions about specific schools. I can direct you to some sources for information, and perhaps share the experiences that I and others have had.
There are some mums in the area running "educational consultancy" businesses.
Alternatively, you can find a lot of relevant info on this link http://www.marylebonemums.com/blog/education-session-what-we-learnt and if you have any questions, feel free to email at marylebonemums@gmail.com and I can try to answer your questions (I am born and brought up in the London education system!)
