Recently I was able to sit down for a chat with a lovely lady, Teresa Lyons, who is a Marylebone-based nutritionist who specialised in Personalised Functional Nutrition. I thought it would be of interest to people as we are all becoming much more aware of the impact of what and how we eat affects our wellbeing. You can find out about what Teresa does at teresalyonsnutrition.com
As a parents or carers, we are constantly kept on our toes but little one with lots of energy. Unfortunately, it isn't always easy to keep up and fatigue can set in. But if the fatigue is more than just kid-related tiredness or is affecting your life, it may be worth thinking about advice from a healthcare professional. Similarly, if you have concerns about recurring flu’s or colds, digestive health, skin, fertility, pre/post pregnancy nutrition you may wish to get advice and guidance in order to optimise your health through nutrition. You can see the areas she particularly focussed on at teresalyonsnutrition.com/areas-of-expertise/ The really interesting part of my chat with Teresa was her understanding of how any advice about changes she may suggest need to be achievable and often need to be changes we can apply to the whole family - no one wants another separate meal to make and if you have to do that, the likelihood is that you will give up implementing the changes. She really seemed to understand and appreciate the importance of striking a balance between developing the most effective personalised nutrition and dietary plan to support each person’s nutritional and health needs, while keeping it as realist and easy to follow so it fits the individual’s life, especially for those of us with families. Teresa spoke about the importance of coaching and guidance within her clinic, and it was clear from our conversation that this is a central focus of her consultations. She clearly recognises the blocks that so many of us can face when taking on changes, especially in our diets. For this reason, her clinical approach focuses equally on scientific, evidence based nutrition, and working with individuals on a deeper level, supporting people in implementing dietary and lifestyle changes and working through the obstacles that can get in our way. Teresa uses a variety of methods to assess and understand a patient's needs from a physical standpoint and also obviously will talk about what you are trying to achieve or get help with. She often applies physical examination as well as laboratory tests to identify your personal needs. She is a lovely warm person as well as being discrete. We had discussed how her service can be used alongside traditional medicine, as well as either being a first post of call or something you turn to after medical advice. She will of course advise appropriately if medical advice should be taken. Teresa offers a free 20-minute initial consultation where you can discuss your main health concerns and goals with her. During this call Teresa will also inform you more about Personalised Functional Nutrition and the consultation process. Visit teresalyonsnutrition.com/contact/ for more information.
