Bad news for families who like to eat out in Marylebone - Giraffe on Blandford St has closed. After many many year, one of the most popular and reasonably priced restaurants for local families has shut its doors. We will miss you, Giraffe!
From what I hear, the location will reopen as a Daylesford shop i.e. pricey dairy, grocery and lifestyle goods probably. With the loss of Starbucks from the high street as well, Marylebone is gradually becoming less and less family friendly. Pizza Express and Carluccios are still reliable family favourites so fingers crossed they also don't get priced out of the market too! (Btw, did you know Giraffe is owned by Tescos? I didn't) There are other cafes and restaurants locally that are happy to host families e.g. Natural Kitchen and others, though not all have baby changing etc so do ask when you are there. Others don't always have space for prams, or only have 1-2 high chairs available. Chiltern Firehouse has a great courtyard and high chairs, but weekends they only serve food from 11am - they are ignoring a great opportunity there! Marylebone is a hot spot right now, but we must make sure that there are still family friendly businesses here too. .

Don't bemoan the loss of Starbucks....There are plenty of good independent coffee shops around Marylebone who would welcome your custom

There are, but many are too small to accommodate more than 1-2 prams. Some independents are a lot more expensive and importantly often have little choice and few options on the menu that are suitable for children. Starbucks may not be the best but it is family friendly and a safe option when you have kids in tow - trendy artisan coffees are not top priority in my life any more. Plus I would rather have a Starbucks than yet another overpriced clothes boutique, which is what we got in its place.

We do not need another uber expensive organic food/lifestyle shop, that's for sure.
