Baker St 2-way Proposals - bad news for local residents?

Those of you who are members of our Marylebone Mums Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/marylebonemums/ may have seen my recent post about the proposed changes to local roads. I have received this from a concerned local resident and mother.

A group of us local residents have gone through the proposals from Westminster City Council for making Gloucester Place and Baker Street two way and realised that TFL have suggested removing the left hand turn from Gloucester Place into Marylebone Road. This will mean that vehicles (HGVs and coaches included) will need to turn left into York Street, Crawford Street and George Street in order to access the Marylebone Road. TFL do not see this as an issue as they feel that the Edgware Road can take more traffic!

As a resident and a mum, I feel very strongly opposed to the removal of this left hand turn which will lead to a substantial increase in air and noise pollution, as well as traffic congestion and an increase in traffic speed. If you feel the same, then now is the time to act as the public consultation lasts until 31st July only.

Crucially, alongside banning a left-hand turn into the Marylebone Road from Gloucester Place (North bound) Westminster are also turning York Street one-way from Gloucester Place to Upper Montagu Street.  This will form the main route for traffic wishing to access the west-bound Marylebone Road.  It will then have to either turn up Upper Montagu Street or Knox Street to join the Marylebone Road.

We are also extremely worried about pedestrian safety - particularly when walking with small children - as these small narrow roads are not designed to be a main artery for London traffic.

The Council will have to listen to our concerns BUT only if they are heard……To voice your concern(s), please:

1.       Fill in the short survey (it takes 5 minutes tops) http://www.surveygizmo.co.uk/s3/2145353/Baker-Street-Two-Way-Consultation-Questionnaire

2.       Write an email to our local councillors: : a.lewis9@btinternet.com, rbeddoe@westminster.gov.uk and cllr.adnanm@gmail.com

For more information look on www.bakerstreettwoway.co.uk

There is also a TfL (Transport for London) consultation on the changes to bus routes that will happen related to this proposal. It could significantly impact regular bus users. You can find the information and take part in the TfL consultation here
https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/buses/baker-street/

PLEASE take the time to read this and get involved, and please pass on this information to anyone who may be interested.
Feel free to email me at marylebonemums@gmail.com and I can put you in touch with the local residents who are trying to get our voices heard.
